    No the merchant was her first life.
    She a Villainess only because she was engage to the prince and was the rival to the so called heroine and she was exiled and now she stuck in a time loop.
    So overall not a Villainess in type but was cast in that role by the prince so he could get it on with someone else mind you from the sound of it Mary the girl only get close to the prince because of her family.
