They could've given it a proper ending after Satan was revived, but they missed the timing, and it just keeps getting worse. Telling their mother's and father's backstory was the last high point. After the main mysteries were uncovered, they tried to substitute that with new mysteries I don't care at all about, and they keep adding generic shounen tropes.
Now at chapter 150, they are resorting to giving a rushed backstory to all the powerful exorcists just before killing them off just to increase the stakes. It leaves a really bad aftertaste considering they were background characters since the start, yet there was almost no time for the readers to get emotions for them.
I need to know whether it became bad after Lin Shihei got promoted...
Been reading this manga on an off since the beginning, mostly off after getting tired of the dragged out story and generic shonen tropes. Honestly this manga should have been wrapped up years ago but hey, cash cow right? I don't think it deserves the glowing reviews it gets but when you pander to the most common denominator of course you get flooded with equally generic knee jerk votes of "10/10 best manga evar!" from people who probably also think Starbucks makes the best coffee.
I've read this before, but it didn't stick to me for reasons I don't remember. Then I got obsessed with Tokyo Ravens (another series with an exorcism school) and I just completely forgot about this series. Now though, years later, I decided to pick it up again.
And I now remember why I dropped it.
These main characters are idiots. All of them. Character development is slow and staggered. The author puts in contrivances and complexity and keeps trying to build up a hype of a big plan and shit, but it all only serves to make you think that everyone's an asshole in their own way. Basically, you have no one to root for. No, not even Rin or Yukio. Actually, ESPECIALLY Yukio, because he seems to just get dragged here and there by his esquire level class even though he should be more experienced. And he can't make up his fucking mind like he's blind to everything that's happening and he doesn't a brain capable of parsing anything that isn't directly in front of his eyes. Goddamn.
I'm at chapter 82 right now. I'm tired. Might drop again tbh.
I rmb starting out this series way back and being hyped for 2 anime seasons and movie. Somehow along the way the story is falling apart and nothing has changed in the world (approx 1 yr later) meanwhile, in reality, it's been over a decade of meandering subplots that have gone nowhere.
I feel like this and DGM have a lot of in common with great art but really, really slow and confusing chapters with sudden power-ups for no reason. Another problem is that for female characters they tend to suffer a lot compared to the male characters on different aspects mostly
Yukio is probably the least liked brother due to a lot of his choices being nonsensical and harmful to himself and everyone for tons of ch. Like maybe he will get better? Probably not. Rin is just sorta there for most scenes the plot drags him along but he hasn't changed much. Honestly Idr much about the side characters other than Sheimi and Shura since there's so many of them other than have mini-arcs that are resolved.
I mean, the easiest way to improve the basic story would streamline the story so we can move on from the flashback arc and progress towards some goal. IDK what is the main problem anymore since we've sealed Rin's demonic powers and they're not anywhere close to graduating HS.
...until the status is completed. At that time, I'll at least read the ending. Lol.
Anyw I stopped at the beginning ark ( I guess )? The story is irritating, not only the main plot but Rin's friends too. The scene is kinda rough sometimes. Err- it's like- jumpy (?) Hmm...
Welp, our main protagonist friends is super annoying for me as well XD. I don't expect a good friendship me-you-forever-friends or something like that, but hecc 🙂)) I feel like burn his friends into fire
And that include Shiemi (or whatever she called) too. Only my opinion, oof! XD
I really enjoy the story, of course there is some old shonen troops but that’s doesnt make it bad to the. The characters interaction is fun and enjoyable as I continue to read the story. The fun and dark moments do arise and I can’t wait to read more.
