In the future, humanity has built a vast starfaring civilization but is gradually succumbing to ennui or despair, often due to defeat and subjugation by foreign invaders. Rising against this general apathy, Herlock refuses to accept defeat and leads an outlaw crew aboard his starship, the Arcadia, to conduct daring raids against Earth's oppressors. The primary oppressors are the Mazone, a race of organic plant-based alien women who explored Earth in ancient times and have returned to reclaim it.
