It would also be difficult in the event that the other team noticed their strategy. Units can only defend their space, so bombardment that strikes spaces around you can't be defended by a single unit without an associated skill. Meaning that having a defender and a sniper combo only works against gunners/other snipers. On the flip side if the enemy caught wind of this strategy it would be easy to take out two units at once by focusing on finding and bombarding the sniper locations leaving a rather large gap in units if done quickly before the unbalanced (due to devoting units to sniper defense) frontline battles conclude. There is also the threat of a "special skill" that an enemy has that would render the strategy ineffectual even in the event that you caught them without a means to bombard and hold your own on the frontline battles. Large risk, little chance of reward.
