At Wataru Fujii's high school, it's all the rage to wear paired rings with someone you're in love with. Even though Wataru is single, he still wears one of these rings. One day, he stumbles upon the fact that his ring matches with Yuichi Kazuki's. Yuichi is a tall, handsome, and intelligent senior who is adored by everyone at school. Despite his reputation for kindness towards everyone, Yuichi treats Wataru with unusual harshness. The paired rings somehow draw them closer, leading to a series of conflicts and attractions as they explore their budding feelings for each other.
Only the Ring Finger Knows was published in English by Digital Manga Publishing on August 1, 2004.

Reading this manga turned out to be quite a delightful surprise. I started with low expectations, but for a short four-chapter shounen ai manga, it is impressively well-constructed.
The narrative flows smoothly and is only about 30% fluffy content. Despite its brevity, the characters and plot are surprisingly solid. Many readers will likely find themselves empathizing with the situations portrayed... and that's what makes this manga such a remarkable yet straightforward piece.
I would recommend "Sono Yubi dake ga Shitteiru" to anyone looking for a quick read.
Story: 10
This is a unique tale about a high school student named Wataru who loses a ring, only to find it on his desk a week later. In this manga, rings worn on the ring finger symbolize relationships, while their absence signifies being single. Wataru discovers he has the same ring as the popular Kazuki, leading to rumors spreading around.
Art: 10
One aspect I always pay attention to in manga is its art, and I can confidently say that Only The Ring Finger Knows features beautiful and delightful illustrations.
Character: 10
I appreciated both Wataru and Kazuki's characters. By the end, Kazuki's actions were more thoroughly explained, surprising me with how sweet and adorable he could be :3
Enjoyment: 10
I truly enjoyed Only The Ring Finger Knows. This manga is an excellent read for fans of shounen ai/yaoi.
Overall: 10
As you can see, I really loved this story. Overall, I believe anyone would enjoy it, even if they aren't fans of shounen ai/yaoi. It's a light read with some cute fluff too^^
One of my favorite genres is shounen-ai, something I cannot deny. For me, and probably for many others, this is the perfect manga. If you haven't read a shounen-ai or yaoi manga but want to start, this one is an excellent choice. There are no explicit scenes; it's just some cute shounen-ai, making it ideal for beginners. As for me, I'm not a beginner anymore (^__^). If you enjoy shounen-ai, this is a must-read!
The story caught my interest right after reading the synopsis. In fact, I remember starting it immediately. The narrative is intriguing, especially as you wonder what happens after their rings match up. You also ponder why Yuichi is so harsh towards Wataru. Within a few chapters, everything becomes clear. The story isn't too lengthy, preventing boredom. It’s a touching and delightful tale.
Before reading "Only the Ring Finger Knows," I hadn’t explored much manga, so this style was fresh and appealing. I genuinely appreciate Odagiri Hotaru’s drawing style. While there aren’t many chibis, it’s not overly detailed either, striking a balance that hooks you in, particularly with the eyes and hair of the main characters. I hope she continues creating more manga; other artists should take note!
The story mainly focuses on Yuichi and Wataru, so you'll primarily care about these main characters. Side characters don't play a significant role, though there are a couple whose presence subtly strengthens the protagonists' relationship. You’ll have to read it yourself to see how.
When I first started reading, I was eager to know how it would end. Upon finishing, I wasn’t disappointed at all. I even considered buying it but couldn’t find it. However, I was determined to reread it someday! At a recent convention, I stumbled upon it in the manga section! Overjoyed, I began reading it again that very night until 3 AM. Clearly, this manga had a profound impact on me! ^__^
Overall, I adore this manga, and nothing will change that. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys shounen-ai, hoping they'll love it as much as I do. I’m sure to reread it for a third time someday! It truly delighted me, yes, delighted. :P
This was my second review. I hope it provides a good sense of how remarkable this manga is. If you think I missed anything, please reach out with your feedback. Criticism is welcome; I learn from both success and failure!
