Resine de Poisson, the orphaned heiress of an immensely wealthy family, decides to enroll in the same boarding school her late mother once attended. However, due to her sheltered upbringing, she finds it challenging to fit in. Matters are not helped by being roomed with Simone d'Arc, a rebellious classmate who delights in teasing and mocking her.
Yet, when fate casts them as the lead roles in a school production of "Romeo and Juliet," their bond begins to grow. "Shiroi Heya no Futari" delves into the complex relationship between a feminine goody-two-shoes and a tomboyish troublemaker.
The "Shiroi Heya no Futari" one-shot first appeared in Ribon Comic in 1971. In 1973, Shueisha, the publisher of "Ribon," compiled the one-shot into a volume of the same name, along with two other stories. This volume was reprinted by Hakusensha in 1975. Finally, in 1988, Kadokawa Shoten included "Shiroi Heya no Futari" in Volume 28 of their series collecting Ryouko Yamagishi's completed works.
"Shiroi Heya no Futari" is generally regarded as the first manga of the yuri genre, influencing many of the best-known works in this genre.
