The story begins when an elementary school boy, Chiaki, brings his classmate and friend, Masamichi, to his home. There, the relentless Masamichi meets Chiaki's older brother, Tomoya. Masamichi then calls him "cute" and asks him out. Given the five-year age gap, it's no surprise when Tomoya reacts with shock. The chase ensues...and continues for years as Masa progresses through elementary school, middle school, and high school.
