After hastily suggesting that his class organize a masquerade ball for the school's cultural festival, Kazumi Kiba finds himself in a mysterious mask store with his best friend Rihito Shimizu. Inside, they meet a disconcerting man who explains that the masks are "Personas," used to express different aspects of one's personality. The man lets the two boys take as many masks as they wish on the condition that they return them once they have unlocked their "hidden powers."
While Kazumi doesn't think much of the visit, Rihito seems to recall something about the Personas and vanishes right before Kazumi's eyes. Desperate to find his friend, Kazumi heads to the last place Rihito was seen, only to encounter a vengeful Rihito and a horde of demons ready to attack.
In this perilous situation, Kazumi awakens his own "Persona" to fend off the creatures, much to his surprise. Now equipped with this unique ability, Kazumi moves forward to uncover the reason behind Rihito's hatred.
"Persona: Tsumi to Batsu" is a spin-off manga adaptation of the 1999 PlayStation video game "Persona 2: Innocent Sin" by Atlus.
