Kanoko Himemiya is the sole reserved and modest girl in a school filled with delinquents and slackers. Unlike her older sister Mayu, whose fame continues to rise, Kanoko, with her plain appearance and personality, seems destined for an ordinary life. The only similarity between the sisters is a unique butterfly-shaped birthmark on their thumbs. However, Kanoko catches the attention of Tsubame Yoshizawa, a notorious ladies' man who enjoys painting girls' nails. Despite his persistent advances, Kanoko consistently rejects him.
When Kanoko finds herself harassed by paparazzi due to her sister's fame, Tsubame unexpectedly comes to her rescue. As they escape, their thumbs touch, triggering a flood of memories from a past life. Tsubame explains that after a double suicide, he and his lover have been reborn in the present, destined to search for their soulmate. Their shared memories can only be unlocked by pressing their butterfly-shaped birthmarks together, but the visions they see are not always consistent.
Convinced that Kanoko is his destined lover, Tsubame wants her to be his girlfriend. However, Kanoko suspects that he might actually be searching for her sister. The visions they share become more complex as more people with the same birthmark appear, weaving a tale that binds a group of friends to a tragic past. With only fragmented glimpses into events from centuries ago, they must decide whether to pursue their star-crossed lovers or reject their predetermined fates.
