Not/Love

Not/Love is an intriguing yaoi manga that stands out from the crowd. Personally, I find it highly appealing because it diverges from typical yaoi narratives where couples fall in love effortlessly and live happily ever after. Instead, Not/Love presents a more grounded perspective, with protagonists facing issues that could genuinely occur in real life.

STORY:

Daisuke, a young detective, embarks on a mission to locate a specific individual for his job. Along the way, he encounters Bun, who agrees to assist Daisuke in finding this person in exchange for temporary lodging. Initially, it seems like a conventional yaoi setup, but as the story unfolds, we delve into Daisuke's troubled past and Bun's family conflicts and shady dealings.

The volume primarily focuses on how Daisuke and Bun meet and begin their relationship. Subsequent chapters then fast-forward seven years, revealing what has transpired since. I thoroughly enjoyed this manga because of its realistic yet humorous tone. The artwork complements the storyline well, blending realism with a fresh, dynamic style.

CHARACTERS

A notable aspect of this manga is the portrayal of female characters. Unlike many yaoi stories where females, such as ex-wives or ex-girlfriends, are often irritating and serve only to emphasize the male couple's bond, the women in Not/Love are surprisingly charismatic. This adds depth to the narrative and enhances the overall reading experience.
