The story revolves around a man who sells medicine. He is also a hunter of mononoke, which are demons. To defeat these entities, he wields a sword. However, before drawing his sword, he must first understand three crucial aspects: the form (katachi) of the demon, the truth (makoto) behind the human tragedies it has caused, and the reason (kotowari) for the evil that brought it into existence.
