I suppose this manga isn't very well-known, which is a pity because it's quite an excellent read. It will likely appeal more to girls as it's written from their perspective. With themes like drug use and sexual harassment, this manga illustrates that such issues can happen anywhere, at any time, and in any place – even to you. This realism draws you into the story, making it engaging and impactful. You should definitely give it a try! I particularly recommend volumes 2 and 3.
Well, let me begin by admitting that I've only managed to read the first volume. Not due to a lack of interest, but simply because I haven't been able to get my hands on the rest. I'm still in the process of either tracking them down or saving up to have them shipped.
I truly enjoy what I've encountered so far. The mangaka appears to strive for an unbiased portrayal of topics such as sexual harassment, drug use, and suicide. It's like presenting the cold, harsh truth without any sugarcoating. Unlike typical moral education materials that seem to dictate behavior, this work reflects real-life experiences of teenage girls from their own perspective. While it can be a bit melodramatic at times, the characters are wonderfully crafted and easy to relate to.
The series is composed of short stories, each addressing a different issue, so there isn't much to say about a continuous plot. However, if you're into one-shots, then this is perfect for you.
If you ever get the chance to read it, I highly recommend doing so. I would actually suggest this to almost anyone, as it raises awareness about issues people should know about.
"We were dying from the moment we were born..."
Confidential Confessions explores the lives of corrupted adolescents grappling with their intricate struggles. The interventions of fate have carved a destructive path for these youths. This manga sheds light on issues prevalent in our post-modern society, where teenagers encounter challenges related to civil rights, economic dilemmas, and social pressures. We've witnessed it all before: the suicidal tendencies of teens and the clash of genders. However, this manga creates an emotional impact by drawing upon familiar themes and current realities—the corruption of tomorrow's youth.
~[STORY]~ [10]
The chapter lengths were appropriate and thoroughly satisfying. The right pacing allowed the drama to unfold naturally. You could almost taste the tears, anger, and vehement frustration expressed by each character—especially the main ones featured in each chapter. Manatsu’s suicidal tendencies, Satsuki’s struggle between her role as a "woman" and her privileges as a Woman, Suzuki’s discomfort with sexual harassment, Ayumi and Hiro’s indecision between what they want and need to do, and Kyo’s drug addiction. We delve into issues of love, lust, dreams, fame, fortune, self-esteem, gender rights, the future, the past, and the present. Indeed, the complex stories within the manga reflect slices of life that readers can understand or even relate to. The plot flowed smoothly, tugging at heartstrings and prompting deep thought about the value of every moment granted by life.
~[ART]~ [7]
The artwork is not particularly impressive, resembling typical cliché anime designs. However, the characters' expressions are well-drawn, conveying drug effects, emotional agony, and intense feelings of violation. A higher grade would be warranted if there were more detail in the character designs. Nonetheless, the art does not overshadow the story; the words and emotions speak clearly enough as they are.
~[CHARACTER]~ [9]
The lengthy chapters allow us to fully understand each character's background. Parents, peers, and even strangers make an impact. The manga highlights how social pressure is inevitable. Readers can recognize the emotional corruption of each character due to certain substances they consume—whether it be suicidal thoughts, depression, obsession with perfection, or exceedingly high hopes for a brilliant future. Truly, the characters in C.C resemble those walking our streets, sitting in our classrooms, and lingering in our homes. That’s what makes this manga special. Proper plot development enables readers to understand the origins of the characters, thus explaining their actions.
~[ENJOYMENT & OVERALL]~ [9]
In its entirety, I award this manga a 9. It's not every day we see a controversial yet striking manga released in the Japanimation realm. What makes it attractive is that the issues presented are not confined to Japanese culture—they can occur in diverse cultures worldwide. The cultural and emotional impact of the series has earned a high rating for sparking a train of thought that may forever run in everyone’s mind. Why do people talk, act, and think the way they do? We cannot provide answers, but we have the privilege to wonder just as, according to Manatsu, we have the privilege to take control of our own fate.
This is essential reading for every teenage girl.
It reveals the hidden dangers lurking around us that we often overlook until it's too late. This book has made me realize that what may seem trivial to others can be a massive issue for those directly affected. It's heartbreaking to think that police might ignore individuals reporting serious issues like stalking or rape, only taking action when it escalates to a life-or-death situation. We all need to be more aware of our surroundings, and resources like this series are crucial in preparing us for the darker aspects of society. Some might label this as paranoia, but I'd rather be cautious than become another statistic.
If any teenage girls are going to pick up a manga series, it should definitely be this one. Confidential Confessions is incredible, and I have immense respect for the author for addressing issues that need to be discussed openly. Presenting these topics in an accessible way makes it even more remarkable.
CC isn't for the faint of heart. It's deeply dark and dramatic, pulling at your emotions with its intense narratives. Covering themes like drug abuse, rape, and other forms of mistreatment, these stories vividly illustrate real-life scenarios and how people should or shouldn't handle them.
Confidential Confessions will forever hold a special place in my heart because it imparts invaluable lessons from which everyone can benefit.
