The Holy Grail War is a ritualistic battle to decide who is worthy of commanding the Holy Grail, an omnipotent wish-granting device. This war involves seven mages, each accompanied by a familiar—an ancient heroic spirit from legend.
The Einzberns, a key participant in the grail war, have enlisted the renowned mage killer Kiritsugu Emiya as their representative in the Fourth Holy Grail War. Despite his formidable arsenal, Kiritsugu confronts six other mages, all striving for victory. Their motivations range from advancing humanity to earning respect, each having their own reasons for pursuing the Holy Grail.
Set 10 years before the events of Fate/Stay Night, Fate/Zero portrays the unfolding of the fateful Fourth Holy Grail War.
Fate/Zero was initially released as a doujinshi collaboration between Type-Moon and Nitro+ from 2006 to 2007 at Comic Market conventions. A six-volume bunkoban edition was officially published by Sekaisha in 2011.
It was published in Polish by Kotori from December 18, 2017, to May 22, 2019, and in Brazilian Portuguese by NewPOP Editora from December 2015 to July 2017.
The series received four drama CD adaptations between 2008 and 2010, along with an image soundtrack in 2007.
