In the year 2077, the Romunilian Empire dominates nearly all of Griffel continent. A few rebel states, like Ledomiam governed by the Olzen royal family, remain defiant. Dragon Princess Karula, from the house of Olzen, travels to Belgorand, the Imperial city, to sign a peace treaty with Emperor Gustav. However, her visit turns into an assassination attempt on the Emperor. Amidst the chaos, Karula escapes but loses someone she deeply cares about.
Gustav, seemingly immortal, regenerates and readies his revenge. The empire launches a full-scale retaliation against Ledomiam and proposes a peace treaty: they will cease fire if the royal family hands over Karula. Forced to choose, Karula abandons her family to the empire. She finds refuge in Zaaru, a free trade city in Nopland, joining a circus as Raym, the sword-swinging amazon. There, she meets Chen and Dard, a border guard commander with a notorious reputation. Together, they embark on a journey to Bohton to rescue Karula's sister, Queen Rosalia, who has been captured by the empire.
