A decaying, old satellite is hurtling directly towards Tokyo. The city is just three residents short of a complete evacuation. Hard-boiled detective Watanabe stays behind in the now-deserted metropolis, hunting for Machida—a gaunt and desperate man wanted for attempted murder—and Chiaki, a stubborn housewife who refuses to believe that the burning debris will strike Tokyo. But Chiaki is mistaken. When the satellite strikes, the trio discovers that the city is not as deserted as they thought. Someone was aboard that satellite as it plummeted from orbit, and this entity is not terrestrial in origin!
