Clannad

Okazaki Tomoya is a disenchanted delinquent who sees life as monotonous and believes he will never achieve anything significant. Alongside his friend Sunohara, he often skips school, intending to fritter away his high school years. One day, while strolling to school, Tomoya comes across a young girl softly talking to herself. Suddenly, she shouts "Anpan!" — a beloved Japanese snack — which piques Tomoya's interest. He soon learns her name is Furukawa Nagisa and that she vocalizes things she loves to boost her spirits. Nagisa declares they are now friends, but Tomoya dismisses the encounter as insignificant and walks away. Yet, Tomoya starts noticing Nagisa more frequently around school. Eventually, he relents and befriends her. Tomoya discovers that Nagisa had to repeat a year due to a serious illness and that her aspiration is to rejuvenate the school's drama club. Claiming he has nothing better to do, he decides to assist her in achieving this goal, along with four other girls. As Tomoya spends more time with the girls, he uncovers more about them and their challenges. As he tries to help each girl overcome her individual hurdles, he begins to realize that life isn't as dull as he once thought.
