I don't get it, he doesn't know magic. How was he supposed to stop her teleportation which is apparently legendary magic there? If you mean how he let her down from the castle, then that was the deal made with her so that she will tell them a spell to open a secret pathway or something. I'd rather have a guy that keeps his word than some excessively cautious, 'killing all potential antagonists in advance' type of guy.
