Rygart Arrow is an 'unsorcerer,' one of the few individuals—approximately one in a million—who completely lacks the ability to use quartz stones, which serve as the energy source for everything in this world.
This status has turned him into an outcast and an object of ridicule, unable to operate machinery, fire a gun, or even light a lamp without assistance. His father had hoped that sending him to a military academy might awaken some power within him, but no such miracle occurred. Rygart has since become a farmer on the isolated outskirts of the Country of Krisna—but the friends he made while at the academy, and his loyalty to them, are about to change everything.
Two of his former classmates now sit on Krisna’s throne, and when they summon him to the capital, he realizes just how sheltered his life has been—Krisna is in peril, war is imminent, and the conditions for surrender put forward by their enemies are impossible to meet. An elite unit of enemy troops is already attacking the capital—an elite unit led by their old friend Zess.
What is Rygart supposed to do when his inability to use quartz leaves him utterly useless in the face of the looming battle? When he stumbles upon a powerful and ancient mecha that the quartz-wielding people of Krisna have been unable to activate, he may just have found a way to stand among them... but with his friends on opposite sides, where does that truly leave him?
"Break Blade" had three volumes published in English as "Broken Blade" by CMX Manga from July 7, 2009, to May 11, 2010, before the publisher went defunct.
