High school student Tasuku Mizuochi harbors a secret he knows and another he doesn't. Despite daily physical abuse—punching, kicking, and more—directed at his karate teammate Ryouta, Tasuku secretly harbors feelings for his childhood friend. When Tasuku's mother passed away, Ryouta was always there to offer comfort, and over time, these emotions transformed into something deeper. Feeling confused and embarrassed by his hidden crush, Tasuku vents his frustrations on Ryouta to prevent him from ever discovering the truth.
Upon learning that his late mother might have been an "ageman"—a woman who brings good fortune to men—Tasuku starts to believe he has inherited these powers as well. This manga felt like watching a poorly executed adult film with an underwhelming plot, minus the explicit content. It appeared that most of the narrative was crafted to place characters in scenarios ripe for intimate encounters, yet those scenes left much to be desired. For example, if you're setting up a lackluster scenario leading to a threesome, shouldn't the threesome actually materialize? If you were seeking a tale brimming with emotional turmoil and hidden romances, this isn't the one for you. Although the plot hints at these themes—very subtly—they are overshadowed by a rather absurd storyline where one of the main characters is believed to bring good fortune.
The story presents itself as portraying real individuals in a realistic environment. However, both the plot and its characters come across as laughably implausible. No one behaves the way the characters do here, and everything feels forced. (Would you pursue intimacy with someone solely because their mother once shared a name with someone potentially lucky? And how many acquaintances know your mother's maiden name, let alone strangers? Enough to spark a chaotic frenzy among eager suitors? I doubt it.) With low expectations and a light-hearted approach, there are occasional moments of amusement sprinkled throughout, and the artwork is fairly decent, which might make it worth a read if you're sufficiently bored.
This is my first review ever, but seeing the only other review rated a 3, I felt the need to step in. :)
I absolutely enjoyed this manga. It's more shonen-ai than yaoi since there isn't too much sex in it, and even though the story theme isn't extraordinary, the characters are just so cute that I couldn't help myself from reading it excitedly.
I'll try not to spoil anything about the content, so I'll just state what I loved about it: The story theme is way too far-fetched, which I actually liked (even though I prefer serious stories) because it made everything complicated, which otherwise would have been pretty easy.
I loved the art. :) For me (maybe shallow), it makes a big difference in how I react to the manga. I especially loved the child-version/mini-sized drawings to express certain embarrassments (there's probably a term for it, but I don't know what it's called).
I've been reading non-stop for a while now, and this one is definitely a favorite. Maybe because I've been reading a lot of one-shots lately and hate the quick development and hasty endings, that I got to appreciate the pace of this manga and the character development. It's not standing out in a way to compare with my most favorites, but the cuteness of the two main characters definitely won me over. :)
