This manga was truly delightful, offering a grounded take on daily life. It stood out with its refreshing narrative compared to the typical drama found in yaoi genres. Each of the four main characters possesses a unique personality that I adore. "Lover's Flat" is one of those rare gems I find myself returning to time and again. In fact, my fondness for it led me to purchase the physical book, which has been part of my collection for years. Despite the passage of time, I can't bear to part with it because every re-read brings as much joy now as it did over six years ago. All the characters are endearing, and their relationships add a special charm.
The story shines through its mundane nature, mirroring the everyday lives of ordinary people. While the artwork could have seen some improvements, the consistency in depicting the apartments adds a nice touch. The characters are simply lovable, making it impossible to pick a favorite. Overall, I highly recommend this manga to fujoshi who appreciate slice-of-life narratives. It captures the essence of real-life experiences with grace and authenticity.
Story:
The narrative is exceptionally grounded and heartwarming, offering an insightful perspective on the dynamics of love between two men. There aren't any dramatic plot twists; instead, their challenges are relatable, common experiences that make it easy to empathize with their emotions. Before you know it, you're fully immersed in their world. In my honest opinion, it's very well done.
Art:
The artwork is charming, despite its imperfections, which add to its uniqueness. The artist’s dedication to depicting the characters as genuine males rather than feminine stereotypes is refreshing and beautiful. Although I wish there was more focus on external scenery, given the story revolves around flatmates, it makes sense to concentrate on their living spaces. The artist paid meticulous attention to detail within their flats, maintaining consistency throughout.
Character(s):
There are four characters, each with distinct traits yet similarities. Kouno is serious and level-headed, Takagi shares a cool demeanor but is passionate and loving, Kei is straightforward and honest, while Naomichi is reserved and introspective. As individuals, they possess personality flaws balanced by their partners. The characters are endearing and sweet in their unique ways, experiencing love differently, making them stand out. However, they are ordinary compared to typical anime characters, which adds to their charm. It's refreshing to see simple, everyday people navigating life and overcoming love's obstacles.
Enjoyment:
I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was an excellent read and definitely worth revisiting. Even though I downloaded it, I plan to purchase this manga soon. (By the way, Anime Castle and Barnes & Noble sell it :) )
Overall:
READ IT! Sorry for getting ahead of myself, but it may seem mundane to some. To me, it conveyed a comforting message that "everything will be okay." Despite their issues, the characters gave their all, showing that sometimes, love can triumph. At the very least, chapters 1 and 2 are worth reading.
