Zaphikel is a high-ranking angel, known as the Chief of the Thrones, and the leader of a rebellious faction called Anima Mundi. This group aims to overthrow Sevothtarte. Zaphikel fell in love with Anael and promised to abandon his role as an executioner of "White Rabbits" – the pale, red-eyed children born to angels due to their incomplete DNA. When he discovered that Anael was pregnant with his child, he vowed to quit his job. However, once Sevothtarte learned of their relationship, he forced Zaphikel to kill Anael. Later, Zaphikel was sentenced to commit suicide, leaving a deep scar around his neck. During this ordeal, he was blinded by Adam Kadmon when Seraphita appeared to save him. His assistant, Raziel, helped him, though Zaphikel initially did not know that Raziel was his son. Upon being exposed as the leader of Anima Mundi, Zaphikel had his wings cut off. When Raziel broke into his cell to rescue him, Zaphikel had already degenerated into a ghoul. Just before his death, Adam Kadmon restored his sight, allowing him to see his beloved Anael's face in Raziel. He then passed on his leadership to Raziel, who raised his gun to end Zaphikel’s berserk state.
