Tajima is a clean-up hitter and a baseball prodigy. However, due to his small build, he is unable to hit home runs. He is naturally outgoing, which helps balance Mihashi's shy personality. Mihashi and Tajima get along well, sharing their love for baseball and poor academic performance. During middle school, Tajima's great-grandfather had to go to the hospital, but no one informed him. As a result, he spent the night at home alone, worrying, while his family was at the hospital and then went out for dinner, completely forgetting about him. This experience led Tajima to choose Nishiura High School because it is very close to his home (only a 5-minute walk). This way, if his great-grandfather or grandparents ever need to go to the hospital again, he would know immediately and wouldn't be left behind.
