Abe serves as the team's catcher and is also one of their top hitters. His catching abilities were honed during his middle school years when he participated in the Seniors league. There, Abe was paired with a gifted pitcher named Haruna, whose pitches were so fierce and uncontrollable that Abe frequently ended up bruised. Despite this, Abe persevered, understanding that mastering Haruna’s pitches would secure him a spot as a regular player. Although he achieved his goal, Abe grew resentful towards Haruna, who stubbornly limited himself to 80 pitches per game, even if it meant forfeiting matches, and never followed Abe's signals. Consequently, Abe initially valued Mihashi for his compliance, determination to stay on the mound, and control. However, Abe soon recognized the effort Mihashi put into his craft and resolved to win games using Mihashi’s pitching, proving to him that he is a capable pitcher.
Abe has a notoriously short temper, especially with Mihashi, and is known for his loud voice, even when laughing, which intimidates not only Mihashi but occasionally other teammates as well. When this is pointed out to him, he makes an earnest effort to be more patient with Mihashi and speak more gently. Charged by Momoe to look after Mihashi, Abe takes this responsibility very seriously, closely monitoring Mihashi's practice routines, diet, and sleep schedule, leading Izumi to remark that he is quite bossy. Abe is also a pivotal figure on the field, often shouting instructions to his teammates during games and meticulously analyzing the opposition. He leverages this habit to excel at predicting which of Mihashi's pitches will result in strikeouts.
