katsura yukiji

Katsura Yukiji is a 28-year-old sister of Hinagiku. She works as a world history teacher at Hakuō Academy and also serves as a round-the-clock gate guard. Initially, she denies Hayate entry to the school out of fear that allowing unauthorized individuals on campus could lead to a salary cut.
Her demeanor becomes friendlier after Hayate rescues her from falling off the clock tower, yet she nearly causes Hayate's rejection from Hakuō by needlessly causing him stress during his entrance exam. To make it up to him, she announces to her entire class on Hayate's first day that he is an incredibly cool person.
Yukiji has a group of underperforming students (Izumi, Miki, and Risa) who frequently hang around with her. She resides on the Hakuō campus, explaining to Hayate that this arrangement helps her save on rent, which she then uses to buy alcohol instead.
A running joke in the series is her willingness to do anything for money, even going so far as to permit an evil spirit to possess her because it promised her a million yen. When Makimura Shiori joins Hakuō as a teacher, Yukiji is demoted to assistant homeroom teacher. Later, she regains her position when Makimura is promoted to a higher role.
In the extras section of volume four of the manga, the author mentions that before starting the Hayate no Gotoku! manga, he had created a one-shot manga featuring a high school girl and her younger sister trying to repay an 80 million yen debt. He reveals these characters are actually Yukiji and Hinagiku.
