Yugo was a young man who resided in Scrap Iron City, and his tale is the most tragic of the series. Orphaned early in life, he moved in with his older brother and sister-in-law. During this time, Yugo's life was possibly at its happiest. However, this happiness was not to last long.
Yugo's brother worked as an engineer for 'The Factory,' which recycled Zalum's waste. He dreamed of traveling to the floating city and designed a hot-air balloon to achieve this. The risk was immense; constructing aircraft was forbidden, and doing so could result in a bounty on one's head. Yet, Yugo's brother persisted, working secretly until completion. On that day, the cyborg hunter Gime attacked, beheading Yugo's brother and slicing off his right hand out of spite. Later, Yugo discovered it was his sister-in-law who informed The Factory, fearing her husband would leave her. If she couldn't have him, no one would! Her whereabouts remain unknown. Since then, Yugo wore a scar around his right wrist to remember his brother and fulfill his dream of reaching Zalum.
For the next three years, Yugo worked as a jack-of-all-trades, using his talents for the citizens of Scrap Iron City. However, he despised them, seeing them merely as scavengers living off Zalum's refuse. Hoping for a quicker way to buy passage to Zalum, Yugo approached the corrupt businessman Vector. Sensing an easy target, Vector said he could help — if Yugo provided 10,000,000 credit chips, a sum that could take a lifetime to earn. Through hard work and frugal living, Yugo nearly reached that sum in just three years! Feeling he wasn't earning fast enough, Yugo and his friend Taji began attacking and selling cyborg spines to Vector.
During this period, Yugo met Gally, and they quickly formed a deep friendship. Yugo shared his dreams and disgust for Scrap Iron City with the cyborg. Gally found this boy intriguing and soon fell in love with him.
But everything soon collapsed. One night, Yugo and Taji thought they had found an easy target, enticing a cyborg with an offer for lubrication, hoping to steal his spine. It turned out the cyborg was a hunter-warrior who trapped Yugo, injuring his right shoulder. Taji made the mistake of calling out his friend's name and tried to save him but was decapitated. This distraction allowed Yugo to escape.
A bounty was placed on Yugo's head. Gally, now a hunter-warrior herself, was horrified. She sought Yugo out and confronted him. Yugo told Gally about his brother and plans. Gally, collecting credits herself to travel to Zalum with him, offered her credits so he could make the journey first.
But as Yugo returned with his credits, he was attacked by Gime, effectively killing him. Gally fought and killed Gime but felt helpless that she couldn't save Yugo. Then Chiren appeared, having followed Gally and listened to Yugo's story. Working quickly, Chiren bypassed Gally’s life-support systems to connect oxygen to Yugo’s severed head. Gally took him to Daisuke Ito, who constructed a cyborg body for Yugo. Chiren was later killed by Vector, who harvested her organs for sale to Zalum, partially keeping his 'promise' to return her there. Vector was later killed by Ito.
While Yugo was recovering, he overheard Ito tell Gally that buying passage to Zalum was impossible; only those born there could live there. Not believing this, Yugo escaped Ito’s office. Taking a desperate route, he climbed the transit tubes holding Zalum above Scrap Iron City. His metal feet were damaged by rings meant to deter 'vermin.' Within reach of his goal, Gally called out, confessing her love and asking him to return. Another ring descended, severely damaging Yugo. Barely caught by Gally, his arm broke, and he fell to his death, a happy smile on his face.
