Lao seems to exhibit strong loyalty. When Ash murders Shorter Wong, Lao's previous employer, Lao harbors resentment towards Ash and decides to exact revenge by killing him. Lao is exceptionally protective of his younger brother, Sing, going to great lengths to ensure his safety. Although Lao does end up killing Ash in the manga (Ash's fate in the anime remains unclear), it becomes evident that Lao does not kill without cause. He declines Yut Lung's request to eliminate Eiji because Eiji has committed no wrongdoing.
