Yō Hinomura, a Japanese potter, comes into possession of some film depicting an assassination carried out by an agent of the "108 Dragons," a powerful Chinese mafia. When he refuses to hand the film over to them, they kidnap him. Under hypnosis, he is trained as an assassin for their organization and his body is tattooed with dragons. He is given the codename "Crying Freeman," because after each kill he cries and yearns for freedom.
