Daughter of the Shan merchant clan, and betrothed (later wife) of Sima Yi. Shan Wuling is seen as the ideal match for Sima Yi, showcasing genius-level cunning and ruthlessness. She is driven to secure profits for her clan's business, often disregarding ethical standards. Similar to Sima Yi, she holds the position of clan strategist and advisor-commander of its private assassin squad, the Defeated Generals, earning respect from the clan elders. Under her leadership, the Shan clan adopts a strategy different from the rival Sima clan: they aim to align with prominent warlords like Cao Cao and Sun Jian to expand their influence. The Sima clan's reluctance to affiliate with such figures is viewed as unambitious and miserly. Initially, Shan Wuling did not hold Sima Yi in high regard and secretly planned to take over the Sima clan once they married. During a mission to aid Sun Ce's return to the Eastern region, she inadvertently revealed her intentions to a disguised Sima Yi, who narrowly escaped death by strangulation due to his unique 'wolfneck' feature. Despite this, when they were captured by Yuan Shu's men and she was publicly humiliated for attempting to seduce his unnamed advisor, Sima Yi defended her. He admired her acts as courageous efforts to protect her clan from Yuan Shu's extortions and earnestly accepted her as his wife, deeply moving her. She acknowledged defeat and fell in love with him after Sima Yi exposed his identity and proved himself superior by killing the unnamed advisor. Later, when Cao Cao destroyed the Sima clan, she feigned madness while secretly harboring Sima Yi and the survivors. With her help, Sima Yi reconnected with Cao Cao's supporting merchants and safely rejoined Cao Cao's service, biding time for his vengeance. It is later revealed that through the Shan clan's long-term relationship with the Sun clan, Shan Wuling is the sworn older sister of Sun Quan, future lord of the Wu kingdom. She and Sima Yi continued to assist the Sun clan in secret.
