Frequently, he leverages their criminal profiles to project a more competent image than his actual skills might suggest, feeling inadequate due to his perceived lack of "life experience." In reality, he deeply cares for his troubled colleagues and strives to support them in any way possible.
The character also features in the Kurosagi series as an older, bald figure with scars and a missing leg. This version of Sasayama no longer serves as a detective owing to his injuries, instead managing Shinjuku's Social Welfare Office. This older Sasayama is notably grumpy, cynical, and miserly.
Linking these two depictions is Sasayama as seen in the Tantei Gishiki series. Though bald and scarred like his Kurosagi counterpart, this iteration remains within the police force. However, his rank is significantly higher than that of the bumbling young Sasayama from MPD Psycho, having ascended to the position of police chief.
