Kou Tenka is a disciple at Konron and the second son of Kou Hiko. Discovered and recruited by Seikyo Dotoku Shinkun, one of the Juunisen, as a doushi, he embodies his father's noble spirit and combat prowess but inherits his mother's black hair. His speech pattern includes the suffix "-sa" and he is almost always seen with a cigarette. Proficient with the lightsaber-like paopei "Bakuya no Hoken," he later acquires "Karyuhyo," a fire-emitting boomerang paopei, and "Sanshintei," tiny lightsabers. After a battle at Kingou, he received "Bakuya no Hoken 2" from his master, featuring blades on both sides of the handle. His absolute confidence in close combat and warrior spirit make him fiercely competitive, hating to lose and often jumping to conclusions.
Due to a cursed injury inflicted by one of Chou Koumei's demon sennin followers, his lifespan was shortened. He fought Chuuou to surpass his father and avenge his parents, yet upon defeating him, he lost his resolve. Immediately afterward, an unnamed soldier ran him through with a sword, leading to his demise. However, this outcome does not apply to the 1999 anime, where he avoided being wounded by a cursed sword and survived until the end.
