As a chubby, unhealthy, and pampered child, Takefumi was frequently bullied in elementary school. He found some protection in the form of Tsubaki, a tomboy who, while shielding him from other bullies, would often bully him herself. When Takefumi asked Tsubaki why she paid attention to him, she revealed that a teacher had asked her to look after him. Upon hearing this, Takefumi felt more humiliated than ever before; he had believed he was special to Tsubaki, only to realize that she didn't care about him at all and was merely following the teacher's instructions.
