Shuka appears as a small girl with hair the color of flames, but she is actually one of the four holy guardians of the south. She wields fire and is often depicted as a bird. Shuka came down to Earth to observe human life, but during her visit, demons attacked and ate one of her wings. Now with only one wing, she inadvertently causes house fires in the neighborhood. If Shuka doesn't recover her other wing by the last day of the year, she won't be able to purify it to welcome the new year. Without this purification, she will lose her status as a guardian and won't be able to return to the southern sky. Shuka takes a keen interest in Momoka, who sees her as a little sister.
At the end of Shuka's story, Momoka and Ryuga manage to retrieve her missing wing, allowing her to purify the old year and return to the southern sky. Shuka has noticed Momoka's feelings for Ryuga and advises her to remember that he will always look out for her. Before leaving, Shuka promises to watch over them from afar.
