The Original King, known as Shinou Heika in Japanese, was the first King of Shin Makoku. His soul continues to watch over Shin Makoku's lands, and certain priestesses like Ulrike and Ondine can communicate with him in a limited way they describe as "hearing His Majesty's voice." Murata also seems capable of communicating with him and is frequently seen reprimanding him for interfering in Shin Makoku's matters. Around 4000 years ago, the Original King sealed the Soushu into four containers, which became known as the "Four Forbidden Boxes." Although parts of the Soushu were contained within these boxes, a small fragment infected the Original King, visibly affecting his right arm. Aware that the Soushu would eventually dominate his mind and body entirely, the Original King, along with his Great Sage, devised a plan to eradicate the Soushu in the future. This plan involved sealing the Soushu with a pure soul and then destroying it. The soul chosen was the Original King's own, but Yuri managed to destroy the Soushu without harming the Original King, earning him the title of the greatest Maoh. The Original King expressed satisfaction with his choice of Yuri as Maoh. In the OVAs, the Original King appears physically alive, seemingly having regained a corporeal form unlike his soul state at the end of Season 2. The Original King told Yuri that with the Soushu destroyed, his goal of choosing Yuri as Maoh had been achieved, and Yuri no longer needed to be the Maoh. Since Yuri fulfilled his objective admirably, the Original King decided not to hinder the decision of choosing Yuri as Maoh and blessed him. The Original King has warned that anyone who opposes Yuri as Maoh will be reduced to ash.
