Lord Gegenhuber Griesela is Gwendal's cousin from his father's side. Years ago, Hube's bigotry and ambition led to many deaths, forcing Gwendal to banish Hube from the Demon Kingdom under the pretense of searching for a lost artifact, the Great Demon Flute. Twenty years later, Yuri learns about Hube in Conansia Svelera from Nicola, a human woman who is carrying Hube's child. Yuri struggles to uncover details about Hube's past, but no one wants to discuss the terrible acts committed. Even Conrad seems content with letting Hube die. Hube becomes the bodyguard for a corrupt lord who tricks people into gambling and taking their shop deeds. When Yuri eventually uncovers the truth, he forgives Hube for unintentionally trying to kill him and pleads with Gwendal not to kill Hube. Gwendal eventually agrees, and Hube departs for his own castle but not before revealing to Gwendal about a box he saw in Suberera. This incident left Hube without his left eye, suggesting this box was one of the Four Forbidden Boxes. In the anime, Hube swears loyalty to Yuri because Yuri chose to spare his life despite Hube's crimes. Consequently, Hube goes to extreme lengths to protect Yuri, such as leaving Nicola to fight against the possessed Original King.
