Initially, Klaus distrusted and disliked Hayate because he believed it was his responsibility to find Himegami's replacement. He often challenges Hayate, with the consequence of losing being Hayate's dismissal. Over time, Klaus becomes a more elusive character, only appearing every 30 chapters or so to express his frustration at being forgotten.
