To hunt his targets, he shows no mercy to ayakashi, and sometimes even humans. He takes a particular interest in Natsume. Cold-hearted and rational, he uses ayakashi as bait to exorcise others and desires stronger ones to protect humans (though he doesn't hesitate to harm humans when they stand in his way). For him, ayakashi are merely disposable tools. He primarily uses a bow and arrow against them and, if sealing them proves troublesome, he prefers eliminating them outright. In the past, a member of the Matoba clan offered his right eye to an ayakashi for assistance but ultimately did not give it up. Since then, the heads of the clan have had their right eyes targeted by that ayakashi. Matoba Seiji still retains his eye, but according to his own words, it bears a terrible scar.
