Despite her gentle demeanor, Sayoko is the 37th successor of the Shinozaki School of martial arts. She is highly skilled in martial arts and athletics. She carries kunai strapped to her thighs and smoke bombs. Officially labeled as a supermaid, Sayoko's daily life at Ashford Academy is humorously depicted in segments called "Sayoko's Diary" on the DVD releases. Sayoko assists with Nunnally's care whenever Lelouch is unavailable. Later, she works as a spy for the Black Knights under Diethard Reid. During the Black Rebellion, she escapes capture by fleeing to the Chinese Federation with Diethard and others. In the second season, Lelouch reveals his secret identity to her, and she poses as his double at Ashford while he is away. Although she can convincingly play his part, her skewed view of his daily life leads her to believe that he is a womanizer, which she portrays him as. Additionally, during one of Milly's festivals, she openly displays her athletic prowess, contrasting sharply with the physically unfit Lelouch.
