At the moment of his summoning, he had just retrieved his laptop after attempting to get it repaired in Akihabara. Curiosity led him to touch a mysterious portal that appeared before him, and he was subsequently transported through it. Initially disoriented, Saito found himself in an unfamiliar world where he was treated like a household pet. He was shocked by the ritual of kissing to establish a familiar bond. In the anime, Saito initially could not understand the language spoken by the students but gained comprehension and communication abilities after Louise's failed silence spell. It remains unclear if this was due to a universal translator-like effect or actual knowledge of their language. In the light novels, he understands their language, which is French. Runes inscribed on Saito's hand read "Geboundolf" or "Gundolf," meaning Gandálfr. These runes glow when his Gandálfr powers activate, granting him exceptional skill with any object intended as a weapon, increased strength, speed, and toughness. Saito is named after Gennai Hiraga, an Edo period Japanese scientist, with his name meaning "ability man." In Zero no Tsukaima F, the final episode, Saito marries Louise. They also travel back to Japan using her teleportation magic.
