At the age of 11, Maeda Sae lost her mother in a tragic accident when a drunk driver collided with their car. Miraculously, Sae and her father survived. However, due to the injuries sustained, Sae lost the normal use of her left leg. During her hospital stay, she developed a smoking habit and was influenced by the older men there. Sae and Iizuka Tsukasa, the story's hero, were each other's first loves. Sae enjoyed watching Tsukasa run. On the day Sae had to move to Osaka, they made a promise that when they became adults, they would be intimate.
