As noted by Taoka, Ikegami is the top defender on the team. During the latter part of the Shohoku-Ryonan game, he was assigned to guard Mitsui and successfully managed to shut him down, albeit temporarily. Following Ryonan's loss to Shohoku, which eliminated them from the National Championship, Ikegami leaves the team along with Uozomi. Unlike Uozomi, who becomes emotional while encouraging his teammates to push Ryonan further in future competitions, Ikegami remains calm and composed.
