Ruka always maintains his distance from others due to his contagious Gravity Power. When someone is drawn towards him, they also acquire the power. After accidentally giving his little brother the power of gravity, he chooses to live with his Uncle. He feels guilty about what happened to Natsuki, believing it was his fault. He has feelings for Yumi but decides not to pursue her because she and Natsuki have mutual feelings for each other, and he doesn't want to interfere.
Later on in the series, he develops feelings for Fuuko.
