The protagonist, Risa Koizumi, stands out among her peers as a Japanese high school student. At 172 centimeters (5 ft 7 in), she towers over most of her contemporaries, whose average height is around 160 cm (5 ft 3 in). Ironically, her surname translates to "little spring." She and others often liken her height to that of a giraffe. Risa can be impulsive and strong-willed, rarely showing her softer side. Risa starts developing feelings for Ootani and soon acknowledges that she likes him. She attempts to confess her feelings but fails the first time. Her friends Nobuko and Nakao step in to help, with Nobuko frequently offering advice. Eventually, Risa directly tells Ootani how she feels. Immediately regretting it, she asks Ootani to pretend it never happened. However, despite herself, she confesses again. Ootani responds that he doesn't see her as a girlfriend yet, so Risa sets a new goal: to make Ootani regret his decision and fall for her too. Ultimately, they begin dating.
