Living in his tranquil village like any ordinary boy, Raki's life takes a dramatic turn when most of his family is slaughtered by a Yoma. When the "Claymore" warrior Clare arrives in Raki's town to eliminate the Yoma, it turns out the creature had disguised itself as Raki's older brother after murdering the other family members. After slaying the Yoma and saving Raki, Clare departs from the town. However, the superstitious villagers exile Raki, fearing he might transform into a Yoma himself due to his close encounter with one. Determined, Raki follows Clare and eventually earns the right to accompany her as her cook. But the real challenges are just beginning for Clare and Raki... Raki begins training in swordsmanship under Isley of the North, aiming to become strong enough to assist Clare. He is depicted traveling with a regressed, child-like Priscilla. Raki is seen wearing armor and wielding a two-handed sword. Through his dialogue, it becomes clear that Raki is aware of Priscilla's true nature. He notes that her small stature is likely due to not consuming human flesh for several years, though she may be reaching her limit. Raki acknowledges that if she succumbs to her hunger, he will try to stop her but admits he will probably fail and be devoured. Later, Raki is impaled through the shoulder by an iron rod tainted with tissue from an awakened being. Despite being the only survivor from the entire village where this occurred, an infection starts spreading through his body, threatening to turn him into a Yoma. In a surprising twist, Priscilla saves him by impaling him with her arm, halting the spread. The Claymore organization subsequently brings him back to their headquarters to analyze what is happening to him.
