Nobunaga Kiyota can be described as the embodiment of arrogance, somewhat akin to Sakuragi but with slightly more skill during the Kanagawa Trials. He constantly boasts about being the true star rookie of Kanagawa, rather than Rukawa. However, he often underestimates other teams, particularly Shohoku, which has led to embarrassing moments, such as when Akagi dunked over him and when Sakuragi faked him out and scored. Kiyota refers to Hanamichi as "Red-furred Monkey," while Hanamichi calls him "Wild Monkey." Despite his arrogance, Kiyota holds a high level of respect for his teammates, especially his captain Maki.
Kiyota is renowned for his leaping ability and ball-handling skills. Even though he stands at only 178 cm, he can dunk and block shots quite frequently. Notably, he dunked over Uozumi during Kainan's match against Ryonan, despite Uozumi's height advantage. Kiyota is the only first-year player who starts for Kainan.
