Johan relocated to Bruntal in the early 90s and started living with another couple surnamed Liebert (not to be confused with the Lieberts from '86). This couple had once lost their son, also named Johan Liebert, in infancy. After a fire "accidentally" destroyed the town's birth certificate records, Johan assumed the deceased boy's identity.

He provided the couple with a house in Offenbach Hessen, though he rarely stayed there, using them mainly as a backup to validate his fabricated family history when necessary.

Julius Reichwein visited the couple and warned them of the dire consequences if they didn't distance themselves from Johan immediately. However, they dismissed his warning and stayed in their home.
