A blind old man from Munich, who had known Johan as a boy, eagerly shared with Dr. Tenma how remarkable a child Johan was. The old man revealed that Johan admired Dr. Tenma deeply because he saved his life, considering him more important than his own parents.
He informed Dr. Tenma that Franz stayed with the Haynau couple from March 1987 to April 1988. The old man described Franz as highly intelligent and courteous, quickly mastering English and French under his guidance. Franz was particularly entertained by the old man's war stories, especially the tale of his narrow escape from a U-boat attacked by an Allied destroyer. Franz was fascinated by human behavior in life-threatening situations and the fear it induced. The old man also mentioned that Franz would not open up to anyone except his sister.
When Dr. Tenma inquired about the boy's twin sister, the old man said that Franz planned to pick her up when she turned twenty in Heidelberg.
