Moondoggie is the second-newest member of Gekkostate, with Renton being the newest. Initially, he managed the LFO catapult systems and launch pads aboard the Gekko. Later, he became the head pilot, stepping in for Talho when she had to step down, as he was the only other licensed pilot in the group. His pilot's license, shown in episode 34, names him James Darren Emerson. Other Gekkostate members often shorten his nickname to "Doggie," and Renton sometimes calls him "Doggie-niisan" or "Brother Doggie" in the English version, indicating Moondoggie as his older brother figure. In the Japanese version, Moondoggie speaks with a strong Kumamoto accent when emotionally charged. In the English version, he occasionally uses surfer slang. Towards the end of the series, Moondoggie's role diminished; he was mostly seen piloting Gekko, making dramatic maneuvers to evade attacks. (Source: Wikipedia)
