Monmon Retsusai, known as Miss Wriggle in the English dub, is the poetry teacher (referred to as a national or Japanese language teacher in Japan) at Mochinoki Middle School. Monmon Retsusai acts as Mr. Touyama's "secret weapon" when he attempts to fail Kiyo out of spite. All the male students, except for Kiyo, become smitten with Monmon due to her adorable looks, seductive voice, and ample bosom. Despite being labeled as Mr. Touyama's "secret weapon," Monmon doesn't have any fondness for Touyama, although she enjoys seeing him "lovesick" over her (or experiencing "agony" in Japan).
Monmon Retsusai brings Gash and Umagon into class to assist her with music during her performance of the song "Mon Mon" (known as "Love Sick Dance" in the English dub). While everyone else dances along to the song, Kiyo refuses to participate in the dance at all.
