Milia is an ace pilot, a female warrior from the giant race known as the Zentradi (referred to as Meltlandi in The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love?). She served aboard an all-female ship and joined Commander Vrlitwhai Kridanik's mission to investigate the "micrones" of Earth and their spacecraft, the SDF-1 Macross. After being defeated in battle by human pilot Maximilian Jenius, she volunteered for micloning, shrinking to human size, and infiltrated the Macross. Her initial goal was not espionage but to find and eliminate the man who had humiliated her. However, when Max defeated her in a knife fight yet spared her life, she realized that the emotion he awakened in her was not hate, but love. After defecting to the Macross and marrying Max, Milia became a member of the UN Spacy and piloted a red VF-1J Valkyrie Fighter as her husband's wingmate. Concerned for her people, she convinced Max and other pilots to capture rather than kill their Zentradi opponents. This act helped save the ship during a massive Zentradi attack, leading to a mutiny within the Zentradi forces severe enough for Commander Vrlitwhai to call a ceasefire. The birth of her first child was a profoundly moving experience for her, as the artificially gestated woman marveled at creating life with her own body. In the original Macross series, Milia becomes a prolific mother, having seven natural daughters with Max over twenty years from 2011 to 2030, and adopting a Zentradi girl. Her second pregnancy was particularly difficult and nearly fatal. In Macross 7, Milia sports a new short hairstyle instead of her original long hair. Despite not showing signs of aging, she is sensitive about comments on her age, especially from Basara Nekki. She is elected overwhelmingly as the mayor of City 7, the largest ship in the Macross 7 colonization fleet, accompanied by her daughter Mylene, who lives separately. Max serves as the commander of the Macross 7 fleet, and although they are separated, it is implied that she still has feelings for him. As mayor, Milia aims to maintain law and order and even tries to marry off the rebellious Mylene. Her piloting skills remain unmatched, and she can still fly a Valkyrie as well as or better than anyone in the Macross 7 fleet. In the series, Milia still possesses her red VF-1J Valkyrie, which she pilots with the same passion as in the original Super Dimension Fortress Macross. She shows clear affection towards her antique red VF-1J when it is destroyed by Sivil while piloted by Gamlin Kizaki. Later in the series, while serving as City 7's mayor, Milia occasionally pilots her Valkyrie—starting with her VF-1J and gradually moving on to more advanced models like the VF-17D Nightmare and VF-22S Sturmvogel II, all painted deep red—to assist the Macross 7 fleet in battles against the Protodeviln. In the final episode of Macross 7, Milia and Max fought side-by-side against Lord Geperuniti.
