Masaru is a transgender woman who perceives herself as a luminous figure in Sector G and also serves as an announcer for most of the "Carnival Corpse" duels. She is frequently seen in the company of Minatsuki Takami, Itadaki "Masu" Kazuya, and Idaki Hitara. Masaru is identified as a Deadman, with her card being Peacock. Her Branch of Sin, Peacock Peak, enables her to generate bramble-like structures that can be utilized to ensnare and pierce adversaries. Chaplin first appears greeting Ganta into G Ward. She introduces him to the other residents: Masu, Minatsuki, and Hitara. Chaplin suggests a welcome-party where they can acquaint themselves with each other and watch Senji's penalty game. She only appears in the manga. Before being sent to Deadman Wonderland, Sukegawa lived "as a gay man". One day, after leaving work early, she discovered her boyfriend having sex with a woman. He admitted that he was not gay and had been using Sukegawa for her money, mocking her by saying that since she "wasn't a woman", she would never find love. In response, Sukegawa used her Branch of Sin for the first time, impaling the woman and killing her. At some point after being sent to Deadman Wonderland, she began presenting as a woman, adopting the name "Chaplin". Chaplin's attire, including her wig, mimics the lingerie and hairstyle of the woman her former boyfriend was caught sleeping with.
